Ramps and Rails Festival, April 27

Ramps and Rail Festival
A short 40-minute drive “down mountain” brings you to the valley town of Elkins, which features a variety of restaurants, shopping, and performance venues. On April 27, 2019, from 10am-5pm, Elkins will celebrate its eleventh annual Ramps and Rails Festival, featuring a variety of vendors selling crafts and ramp-themed foods, with live music and dance performances at the Elkins Train Depot. Prior food vendors have concocted delicious options ranging from hearty ramp burgers to more exotic ramp-infused fare. For a mere $15 ticket, festival-goers will also have the chance to experience one of the first train runs of the year on the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad, an historic tourist train company that offers a variety of trips through some of West Virginia’s most pristine environments.
Don’t know what ramps are? Then you’re in for a treat! Ramps are a wild member of the onion family with a unique, pungent flavor reminiscent of green onions, garlic, and pepper, and its long green leaves, purple-white stalks, and slight bulbs are all edible. An elusive Appalachian, largely foraged, vegetable only growing for a short few weeks in spring, ramps maintain a long history in Appalachian folklore and identity as a local delicacy, along with being traditionally revered as a break in the long winter fast for rural residents. Come celebrate local fare and creativity with us and book a rental today to experience the Ramps and Rails Festival!
